The Challenge We Face

 

According to some polls:

26 percent of Americans don’t know what country the U.S. won its independence from

71 percent don’t know where the Pacific Ocean is

50 percent believe that Christianity came before Judaism

30 percent don’t know what year 9-11 occurred

5 percent don’t know what DATE 9-11 occurred

35 percent believe homosexuality is a choice

37 percent believe global warming is a myth

25 percent don’t believe in evolution

25 percent doubt that the moon landing actually occurred

25 percent believe the sun revolves around the earth

30 percent of Republicans believe Barack Obama was born in Kenya

30 percent of Americans (68 percent of Republicans) believe the 2020 election was stolen (or “stollen”)

25 percent believe that the FBI was behind the Jan. 6 insurrection (many of the same people also believe it was BLM and/ or Antifa)

11 percent of younger Americans think the Jews caused the Holocaust

 

For centuries, the Christian world believed that, since Eve was fashioned from one of Adam’s ribs, women had one rib more than men. Until around 1543, when somebody finally got around to actually counting ribs.

May this be the year when Americans finally start counting ribs

  2. It’s hard to believe that so many people are so ignorant. The numbers may be a little different in other polls, but they still include a large percentage of Americans who are downright ignorant. On the old Jay Leno show, while doing his man-on-the-street interviews in LA, Lenno asked several people where the Pacific Ocean was, and way too many didn’t know even if they identified themselves as being college students, and that every time they traveled near the coast in LA, they were staring right at it.

    But although lack of basic knowledge is important, even more shocking is the fact that many people don’t even know where to go to get the facts. All the sites that feature liberal commenters are not accepted, (oddly enough because Trump, or one of his advanced team flunkies, had told them that liberal news sources all tell nothing but lies). Hmm, they forgot to investigate right-wing news sources at all but began accepting everything conservative sites say. Instead are content to accept (line, hook, and sinker) what conservative or MAGA sources tell them. Thus it’s easy for Autocrats to manipulate them after repeating their lies (ad infinitum). Why do they believe so many goofy lies, quite simply really–the news sources they watch have told them to? Trump is a good liar, and so gains followers and allegiances no matter how sophomoric his performances are.

    All Communist or Authoritarian countries thrive on distorting or not mentioning any real facts. Why? Because if the ruled saw how they are really being ruled, it would dawn on them that they are really living in an illusory matrix, designed to use them just to keep it going. And once that image is shattered, it’s never any good for high and mighty politicians–no matter what
    “isms ” are at the end of their names!
