The Week In Stupid (May 5-11)

There’s a new Pope in town, and MAGA ain’t thrilled about him. Not only is he not The Donald, he’s been critical of The Donald. They’ve made a number of idiotic comments about him, but perhaps the prize goes to DJT’s fellow felon Steve Bannon: “[The Pope] may be American, but he’s not America First.”

A couple of guests on Fox “News” discussed the possibility of making American cities more bike friendly. One of them said that bike lanes were “communist garbage”, and added, “I have a car like a normal American.”

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon keeps spending her time dashing off petulant and threatening letters to institutions of higher learning, as any good education secretary would. Recently she sent one to Harvard, and a user on Ex-Twitter posted it with corrections in red ink of its many grammatical and other errors. The rumor was that Harvard itself did the correcting; that isn’t true, but it was still a valid highlighting of her numerous and frequent mistakes. Hey, who ever said that a secretary of education had to be educated herself?

Nancy Mace has a habit of bragging that she was the first female graduate of The Citadel. It’s a lie — the first female graduate was 29 years before her. But it’s very important to her to claim credit for shattering the glass ceiling at this previously all-male institution. Meanwhile, she continues her unhinged rampage against DEI.

The White House Occupant abruptly fired the Librarian Of Congress for not being MAGA enough. When asked about the move, his official proxy liar, Karoline Leavitt, explained that among other things this librarian had stocked the shelves with books that were inappropriate for children. For the record, the Library Of Congress is not a place where children can check out books. Nor is it a place where adults can check out books. Nor is it a place where bears on tricycles can check out books. It is a place designed to be a repository for every book published in the U.S., whether it’s appropriate for children or not.

Continuing with the theme of grossly unqualified female recipients of MAGA DEI, the latest addition to the Fox cabinet is the wild-eyed, frothy-mouthed Jeannine Pirro, who will “serve” as the prosecutor for the District Of Columbia. So be sure you pay those overdue fines from the Library Of Congress. Entirely by coincidence, Pirro has a record of rapturously rhapsodizing about Dear Leader’s glorious “leadership” and “brilliance”.

When questioned about the White House Occupant answering “I don’t know” when asked whether he was bound to uphold the Constitution, Mike Johnson defended him by saying, “Is the president expected to be an expert on all of the Supreme Court cases? I don’t think so.” Which is, of course, a weaselly dodge — something you’d never expect from Johnson, right? The question is whether he’ll uphold the Constitution — and Johnson is apparently suggesting that the president shouldn’t be expected to know anything about legal matters. But what really takes the cake for stupid was what he said after that: “I think he’ll uphold the Constitution, as he’s demonstrated earlier.”

But Michele Bachmann (remember her?) is convinced that it’s those nasty Democrats, who, by wanting to uphold and defend the Constitution, pose the real threat: “They’re going to bring retribution against us”, she said, echoing the exact word that was the keystone of her Lord and Master’s campaign platform. And she added, “this is a dictatorship mentality.”

  1. You forgot Casey Means, who didn’t complete her residency and isn’t licensed to practice medicine, being nominated to be Surgeon General.
