The Week in Stupid (June 23-29)

Up first this week is none other than the King Of Stupid himself, our only president, your joke butt and mine, let’s give it up for the Stable Genius: “If you look at the end of the Civil War — the 1800s, it was a very turbulent time. If you take the end day — was it 1869? Or whatever.” Okay, maybe he should be disqualified from the Stupid Olympics. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

And then there are those who want to deify the King Of Stupid, such as Will Cain of Fox: “It is not partisan at this point to say, is this presidency not one that puts itself in company of those who’ve had their faces carved into mountains?” No, Will, why would anyone consider that partisan?

The Supreme Court, continuing to take a sledge hammer to (what is left of) democracy, issued a fiat severely limiting (hold their beer) the ability of courts themselves to put a check on presidential power. Or as humorist Andy Borowitz so aptly put it, “Supreme Court Rules That It No Longer Exists”.

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) was denied medical care for her ectopic pregnancy, thanks to draconian reproductive laws in her state that she herself has supported. Naturally, she blamed her problems on Democrats.

Prominent Christian nationalist Joel Webbon has no worries about AI, which he is convinced will do the work of God. Specifically, he says, it will perform much of the “meaningless” work now done by women, so they can stay at home and have babies and be domestic servants.

White Christian nationalist Andrew Isker asserted that once Christians arrived in the New World, witchcraft “stopped working” . Nonetheless, he suggested that maybe the Salem witch trials were justified because “weird stuff” happened that had “no rational explanation whatsoever.”

As Mother Jones reports, there is a growing schism in the MAGA Cult over the administration’s attack on Iran and intervention in that nation’s conflict with Israel. Not on political or diplomatic or humanitarian grounds. But because they disagree on Israel’s role in the “end times” fantasy.

“California should model its academic standards after educational powerhouses like Alabama.” — Linda McMahon. For the record, California ranks 24th in education. Alabama ranks 44th. But maybe McMahon has been getting alternative facts from “A One.”

Finally the Daily Caller, the fascist website founded by Tucker Carlson, ran a story with this headline: More Voters Deciding They’d Rather Be Called Anything But A Democrat. It’s a reference to one particular poll indicating that there is an increase among voters identifying as Independents, and some of them apparently formerly identified as Democrats. (It’s not hard to see why they would be disillusioned with the Democratic inability to cut through the propaganda and win elections.) What the Daily Caller‘s smug narrative doesn’t proclaim so loudly is that Republicans have also lost support, and they’re still outnumbered by both Democrats and Independents.

  1. Conservative activists are Still appealing to superstitious garbage like the Salem Witch trials, which were actually caused by a group of spoiled children who lied about certain members of the colony, but If that kind of childish game was founded on anything, its the deep seated wish of the right to be a moral force that is at war with the “Devil.” Yet, it never occurred to them that supposedly righteous and immature members of their colony might get a kick out of lying–like so many spoiled children. But the lies themselves mean nothing if not backed up by rampant outbreaks of fear mongering used by the radical right to extoll he presence of “evil.”

Here’s a clue–in today’s world merely taking philosophy classes or a political philosophy class, denoting the ideological and/or theological views that these different political systems believe, is not demonic!–they are just courses used to edify students who want to learn about our various approaches to ethical behaviour. So please let me say that, In 2025, if we are still struggling against politicians who claim to be God’s only correct servants–no matter how superstitious or unreal their ideas are, then we are already traveling upriver without a paddle!

If anyone really prefers not being identified as a Democrat, perhaps that’s because their long established Identity as defenders of the moral applications of the first Amendment, has been spit on, lied about, and used to falsely portray them all as socialists or Communists, in a country whose citizens have very little understanding of what either of these political systems actually believe, and instead, favor repeatedly associating them with Marxism, fascism, and ways of controlling others who may be the owners of large businesses which promote corporate greed. And Man!, if that’s the way we establish moral virtues, then we are all heading up river without a paddle!
