Landen Roupp, J T Brubaker, Sam Hentges and Ryan Walker are pitchers for the San Francisco Giants, a team that takes special pride in observing Major League Baseball’s annual Pride Night, since the city is home to an especially large gay population. Every year on Pride Night, Major League teams (except, for some reason or other, the Texas Rangers) wear a special cap with a rainbow logo on it. This year, Hentges refused to wear the cap, opting instead for his usual cap with the standard logo. The other three wore the rainbow logo caps, but expressed their homophobia by adding to their caps the inscription Gen. 9: 12-16, referring to a biblical passage which they believed justified their bigotry. (Among other things, this was a violation of league regulations, which prohibit personalized additions to uniforms.) But it looks like God has the last laugh. The passage actually proclaims divine love for ALL living creatures.
