It’s very easy to shift the goalposts of normalcy when you remove context. What do these people do in their respective lives outside the frames of these photographs? Does the person on the left volunteer at the local animal shelter? Does the family on the right pose for a Christmas photo sporting an arsenal of firearms? Nobody, by the way, is calling the activity on the right “abnormal”. Nor is the activity on the left particularly “normal”. Which is precisely what makes it so compelling. In any case, it’s a very big mistake to equate “abnormal” with harmful or “normal” with harmless, much less beneficial.
