Bad Meme Of The Week # 298

What, no pizza, pasta, donuts, pretzels, ice cream, hot dogs, or “freedom” fries? None of them originated in the U.S. Ah, but surely some good old American apple pie is okay, right? Sorry, but it’s actually of British origin. And barbecue? Both the word and the practice are foreign. Mustard spread has been around for thousands of years. Pork wasn’t introduced to the Americas until the 1500s. And the bacon cheeseburger wasn’t invented until 1963. Was that when these foods started becoming “American”? What constituted patriotic cuisine before then? Is it impossible to possess American or “Christian values” without eating these things?
